Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell or PEMFC is an electrochemical device that directly converts the chemical energy of hydrogen fuel into electrical energy. It functions through a redox reaction at the interface of an anode and a cathode, which are separated by a proton exchange membrane. At the anode, hydrogen molecules split into protons and electrons, where protons migrate through the membrane to the cathode and electrons travel through an external circuit to generate electrical current.
