Cold Pressed Sesame Oil Market Report and Forecast 2025-2034
Description
The global cold pressed sesame oil market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.20% during the period 2025-2034. The market is likely to be driven by uses of the oil in alternative medicine, flavouring, cooking, and body massage. Myanmar, China, India and Japan are key producers of sesame oil. North America, Europe and Asia are expected to be key markets.
Global Market Likely to be Driven by Uses in Cosmetics, Health and Wellness Products, and Cuisine
Sesame oil is commonly employed for cooking in Southeast Asian cuisines; it is also used as a gourmet oil in salad dressings. It has uses in cosmetics and other health and wellness products. Its popularity is growing in Europe, where it is marketed as a high-quality oil.
Sesame oil is extracted from sesame seeds. It plays an important role in Asian cuisine as well as alternative medicine. Oil is expressed from sesame seeds either by simply crushing or toasting over heat. The crushing method provides cold-pressed sesame oil. While cold-pressed sesame oil is pale yellow, hot-processed sesame oils have darker shades and a distinct flavour. Cold-pressed sesame oil carries a mild, nutty flavour, and a higher proportion of fatty acids than sesame oil obtained from heated seeds. Further, the sesamolin content of cold-pressed sesame oil keeps it from oxidation, increasing its shelf-life.
Cold-pressed sesame oil contains 11.8 mg of vitamin E per 100 g of oil, making it a good source of vitamin E. Vitamin E affords sesame oil its antioxidant property. Cold-pressed sesame oil is rich in fatty acids, including polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acids and monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acids. Other components of cold-pressed sesame oil include copper, zinc, magnesium, calcium and iron, and vitamin B-6. Zinc is good for the bones while copper helps in the management of rheumatoid arthritis; calcium helps prevent osteoporosis, migraine and colon cancer; and magnesium contributes to respiratory health.
The Global Cold Pressed Sesame Oil Market Expected to be Driven by Health, Cosmetic and Culinary Benefits Offered by the Oil
Polyunsaturated fatty acids present in cold-pressed sesame oil help control hypertension. Apart from polyunsaturated fatty acids, sesamin (a lignan shown to lower blood pressure), a natural preservative, is also present in cold-pressed sesame oil. Sesamin hinders the production and absorption of cholesterol, contributing to overall cardiac health.
In Ayurvedic practice, cold-pressed sesame oil is known as the healing oil. It is suggested that when applied topically to the skin or hair, the antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of the oil provide nourishing, protective, and detoxifying effects on damaged and stressed skin. Being rich in omega-6 fatty acids, cold-pressed sesame oil is used as a moisturizing and massage oil. Sesame oil is said to rejuvenate the skin and prevent premature aging. It is particularly useful for dry and damaged skin, and in the treatment of chemical burns, skin allergies, eczema, rosacea, sunburn, dry hair and dandruff. It is also beneficial to patients undergoing chemotherapy and individuals sensitive to swimming pool chlorine.
Due to preservative actions of sesamin and sesamol naturally present in cold-pressed sesame oil, it stays the longest amongst cooking oils with high smoke points. These preservatives keep sesame oil from going rancid even when stored in the open. Cold-pressed sesame oil has a higher smoke point and can be used for deep-frying.
