A sodium-sulfur (NaS) battery is a type of rechargeable battery that uses liquid sodium as the negative electrode (anode) and molten sulfur as the positive electrode (cathode), with a solid ceramic electrolyte separator between them. During discharge, sodium ions migrate from the sodium electrode through the electrolyte to react with sulfur at the cathode, forming sodium polysulfides. This reaction releases energy that can be harnessed to power electronic devices or store electricity. NaS batteries are known for their high energy density, which allows them to store large amounts of energy in a relatively small volume.
