Silicon Photonics (SiPh) is a high-speed optical technology that enables data transmission over long distances. It is an essential technology for digital transformation, as it provides a highly scalable and cost-effective means of transmitting data over a large bandwidth in a small footprint. SiPh products are used in a wide range of electronic devices, including mobile phones and tablets, computers, data centers, and telecommunications networks.
It’s also enabling new applications such as optical interconnects for processor chips in computers that can enable them to achieve exascale speeds (around 1018 calculations per second) and approach the human brain’s processing power at the neural level. This would allow supercomputers to handle huge amounts of data at unprecedented speeds, helping us to understand how the brain works, and ultimately develop better medical treatments.
