N-Methyl Diethanolamine (MDEA) is an organic compound that is a colorless liquid and has an ammonia odor. N-Methyl Diethanolamine is widely used as a sweetening agent in oil refineries, natural gas and syngas, and chemical production. The applications of MDEA include gas absorbent, catalyst for urethane and epoxy resin coating systems, and as formulators in the oil & gas industry.
MDEA is used as a softening agent in the textile industry. Softening agents are used to give better fabric handles, drapes, softness, cutting, and sewing qualities to the fabric. These softening agents are applied on yarn, fiber, knitted, and woven fabrics during the dyeing process. MDEA is also used in the manufacturing of dyes, paraffin emulsions, textile lubricants, and soap emulsifying agents in the textile industry.
Market Dynamics
MDEA is manufactured with different purities such as 99%, 97%, and 95%. Other segments include products that are offered with an MDEA concentration below 95%. Among product types, MDEA 99% segment accounted for the largest market share in the global N-Methyl Diethanolamine (MDEA) market in 2022. The segment contributed over 55.30% share in the global N-Methyl Diethanolamine (MDEA) market in terms of revenue.
Among regions, Asia Pacific held the dominant position in the global N-Methyl Diethanolamine (MDEA) market in terms of revenue share, in 2022. The region held around 35.50% of the total revenue share generated across the globe. The regional growth is derived from the expansion of end use industries such as textile and oil & gas coupled with the growing use of MDEA in these industries.
