Pultrusion is a fabrication process that forms and cures thermosetting plastics while pulling them continuously through heated steel dies. Fibre reinforcement materials such as glass fibre, carbon fibre, and aramid fibre are often used with the plastic material and pulled through a heated die. This process forms structural shapes with a resin matrix and continuous reinforcement material. The pultrusion process produces components having constant cross-sections. The process provides close dimensional tolerances, unidirectional strength along the length of the part, and high fibre loading to minimize weight. Pultruded profiles are used in various industries such as electrical, construction, industrial machinery, and transportation.
Market Dynamics:
Global pultrusion market growth is driven by increasing demand from various end-use industries like wind energy, transportation, construction, machinery, and shipbuilding. Pultruded profiles are widely used as composites materials in wind energy applications due to their superior mechanical properties, dimensional stability, and corrosion resistance. Rising adoption of renewable energy sources globally is fueling the growth of the wind energy industry, in turn, driving the market expansion. Favourable government policies and initiatives promoting renewable power generation boosts the product demand. However, fluctuation in raw material prices owing to supply chain disruptions acts as a major restraint. Moreover, development of new pultruded materials with enhanced properties presents lucrative opportunities for market growth over the forecast period.
