Propane is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas with the chemical formula C₃H₈. It is usually in gaseous form. It is usually compressed into liquid form for transportation. Propane is an important energy source and chemical raw material, widely used in household, industrial, agricultural and other fields. Propane is the main component of liquefied petroleum gas. According to CRI analysis, propane can be used as fuel and raw material, such as home heating, industrial heating, etc. At the same time, propane is also an important chemical raw material that can be used to produce chemical products such as ethylene and propylene.
The world's major propane producing countries include the United States, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, etc. According to CRI analysis, the United States is the world's largest propane producer and exporter, accounting for more than 50% of the world's total production, and has become the world's largest propane exporter in the past few years. Propane in the United States is mainly produced by natural gas processing plants and refineries. Next are Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries.
In recent years, with the development of Mexico's economy, especially the booming automobile industry and other manufacturing industries, the demand for propane in Mexico has continued to grow. According to CRI analysis, propane is widely used as a fuel in Mexico, especially in some industrial and household fields. In addition, the Mexican government promotes the use of propane as a vehicle fuel, especially in urban areas such as Mexico City where air pollution is a serious problem, which has promoted the rise in the demand for propane in Mexico.
The main local producer of propane in Mexico is the national oil company Pemex. Although the local production of propane in Mexico continues to grow, due to the high growth rate of the Mexican propane market demand, the production of propane in Mexico is not enough to meet the domestic market demand. Therefore, Mexico needs to import a large amount of propane every year. According to CRI data, the import value of propane in Mexico reached US$1.848 billion in 2024, an increase of 10.5% over 2023. It is expected to continue to grow in the next few years.
According to CRI analysis, the main import sources of Mexican propane from 2021 to 2024 are the United States, Canada and China. The United States is the largest source of propane imports to Mexico. The main companies exporting propane to Mexico from 2021 to 2024 include TGO LTD, PARCELMOBI S A DE C V., ZHEJIANG YONGHE REFRIGERANT CO LTD and other companies. The main importers of Mexican propane from 2021 to 2024 are mainly local energy companies.
According to CRI's forecast, as Mexico's population grows and industrialization progresses, the Mexican propane market will continue to grow. However, due to the limited local propane production capacity in Mexico, the Mexican propane market will rely on imported products for a long time, and it is expected that Mexican propane imports will continue to grow in the next few years. CRI recommends that global energy industry chain companies should conduct timely research on the Mexican market and prepare for entering the Mexican market.
