Europe Market Report for Dental Growth Factor 2017 - MedCore
Dental growth factor and tissue engineering products is a broad category that encompasses products used for facilitating and enhancing bone regeneration. This includes growth factors and enamel matrix protein solutions. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is also used for these purposes, but will not be considered within this report. Osteoinductivity refers to the ability of a graft to induce de novo bone growth with biomimetic substances. However, only a few bone graft substitute materials have the capacity for osteoinductivity. Growth factors and other tissue engineering products enhance osteoinductivity and osteogenesis, and are used to increase the rate and volume of bone regeneration.

Emdogain® is used in periodontal surgery and as a topical application for exposed root surfaces, and is indicated for the treatment of intra-bony defects due to moderate or severe periodontitis. In the past, Emdogain® was typically only incorporated into periodontal procedure in Europe, as it is considered to be extremely effective for stimulating bone regeneration to treat certain periodontal defects. However, in May 2016 the product was cleared for a new indication of soft-tissue wound healing in oral surgical procedures and dental implantation procedures in general. Therefore, the European market for Emdogain® will emulate growth of periodontal defects within the region but additionally incorporate a portion of growth within the DBGS market. Generally, the number of periodontal procedures per country is strongly correlated with the country’s population. However, Emdogain® has benefited from substantial marketing campaigns by Straumann since 2009 that advocated introducing the product as a resource for general practitioners to create new treatment opportunities in order to mitigate the effects of the recession."
