Denmark Market Report for Hearing Aids 2016 - MedCore
The total hearing aid market includes both manufacturer revenue and retail revenue. The manufacturer hearing aid market segment represents the revenue generated from manufacturers selling their hearing aids to retailers. The retail hearing aid market segment represents the revenue generated from retailers selling hearing aids to end users. This approach was taken in order to do a comparison of the market revenue of the manufacturers of the hearing aid devices versus the retail hearing aid sales.
In Denmark, hearing aids are dispensed through both the public healthcare system and private retail stores. Denmark has one of the highest European reimbursement rates, which has contributed to the country having one of the highest penetration rates in Europe. In 2013, the Danish government dramatically cut reimbursement almost by 50%. This reimbursement is available every five years. Patients that go through the public healthcare system typically pay no or very minimal money due to the already high reimbursement that they receive for hearing aids, while patients acquiring hearing aids through the private sector only pay the remaining cost for mid-level to premium hearing aids.
