Brazil Market Report for Final Abutments 2017 - MedCore
A dental abutment is a metal piece that connects to a dental implant fixture via an abutment screw. The abutment further functions as a connector between the implant fixture and final outer crown placed on top of the implant. Often times, a provincial abutment is administered, but ultimately it must be replaced by a final abutment to ensure a permanent solution. Abutments are offered in a variety of material types including titanium, steel, ceramic, zirconia and even gold.

Ideally the markets for final abutments and dental implants should be perfectly correlated as the products go hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Brazil. This is best explained by the dominance of two-stage implant surgery procedures, which entails a 3 to 6 month lag between surgeries. As abutments are placed during the second surgical procedure, the delay may permit the abutment placement to be carried over into the next year, thereby dampening abutment sales. Abutment sales are further hindered by a minority of implantologists that reuse abutments of other treatments in attempt to cut costs. Nonetheless, as the number of implant procedures continues to grow, the market for final abutments will as well.
