Argentina Market Report for Dental Implant Fixtures 2017 - MedCore
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that support a restoration placed for a missing tooth or teeth and aid in the prevention of jaw bone loss. They are typically offered in the form of a metal-based material such as titanium and are inserted into the jaw to replace missing teeth. They can be described based on their shape and method of attachment to the jaw. In the case that a patient suffers tooth loss from tooth decay, root canal failure, gum disease (periodontists), trauma to the mouth (a tooth injury), excessive wear and tear or congenital defects, he or she may be in the position to receive an implant. Other options are available on the market in the case that a patient has a missing tooth. Experts now regard implants with attached crowns as the preferred method for treating tooth loss because implants maintain the same functionalities as natural teeth and help preserve the jaw structure by preventing atrophy from bone loss. Bridgework and dentures are an alternative solution that addresses the cosmetic issue of having a missing tooth, but they do not prevent bone loss. Permanent implants maintain proper chewing function and exert appropriate, natural forces on the jawbone to keep it functional and healthy.

In 2016, the Argentinean market continued to experience a high volume of dental implant sales and procedures as a consequence of a multitude of factors. Firstly, Argentina has an outstanding variety of dental implant manufacturers, as opposed to many Latin American countries that are entirely based on distribution channels. Furthermore, there was an abundance of inexpensive implants and procedures in the dental market. Also, a great deal of Argentinean dentists are specialized in placing implants, as well as a relatively high proportion of general practitioners. In addition, there were special dental implant clinics that specialized in performing implant procedures at low cost to patients who were not able to afford treatments using premium-brand implants. This was made possible by the presence of domestic economy-brand competitors in the market.
The favorability of cheaper implant products has enabled local companies to dominate the market, dragging prices down to a relatively inexpensive position. As a result, about 80% of dental implant sales in Argentina can be accounted for by national brands. As for the international, premium companies that are already established in Argentina, there appears to be a consistent tendency to drop prices to compete with local players. Even with modest price decreases, this sector of the market will remain small as it is targeted towards individuals that can afford such procedures, as well as a minority of cases in which premium products are absolutely vital.
