WaterNSW is upgrading a dam in New South Wales, Australia.
The project involves the upgrade of Keepit Dam and it will be implemented in two stages.
The first stage includes the construction of two spillways, a main saddle dam with 185m long and 7m high, two access roads and two smaller saddle dams.
The second stage includes the raising of the dam by 3.4m, raising the embankment dam with a parapet wall, increasing flood and seismic loading by installing post-tensioned anchors, modifying the spillway gates, upgrading the electrical appliances and modifying the gantry crane. It includes the construction of two new fishways downstream at Mollee and Gunidgera and removal of the Weeta weir to provide fish passage.
John Holland Pty Ltd has been appointed as construction contractor for main saddle dam and the two spillways, Soil Conservation Service (SCS) as construction contractor for the two access roads and two mini saddle dams, MPC Earthmoving and Mackellar Excavations were earth works contractors and Hamcon Civil as demolition of the two cofferdams.
In March 2010, construction works commenced on the first stage and completed in November 2011.
Parsons Brinckerhoff Ltd has been appointed as study consultant. SMEC Holdings has been appointed as detailed design works contractor for the second stage.
In January 2014, Ryan Wilks Pty Ltd awarded a electrical works upgrade contract for the second stage.
In March 2017, SRG Ltd was awarded a US$19 million contract for the second stage. The contract includes the installing post-tensioned cable anchors vertically through the dam wall.
Construction works on the second stage is underway and are slated to be completed by the second quarter of 2019.
