Whale Rock Cement Pty Ltd (WRC) and Asia and Africa Business Management Xi'an Co (AABM) Chinese company are undertaking the construction of a cement plant in Otjozondjupa, Namibia.
The project involves the construction of a cement plant with a production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). It includes the construction of an administrative block, grinding units, processing units, control rooms and storage units, and the installation of equipment and machinery.
The project will be developed in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of administration block and the second phase involving the construction of the plant.
Corsan Engineering has been appointed as the Engineering consultant and WRC's in-house division will undertake the construction works.
In October 2015, WRC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AABM to develop the project.
In February 2017, construction works commenced.
Construction works are underway and are slated to be completed in 2018.
