The Welsh Government (WG) is planning to undertake the construction of a bypass in Gwynedd, Wales, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a three-lane, 9.8km highway. It includes the construction of interchanges, seven bridges comprising a 280m bridge over the River Gwyrfai and a 300m bridge over the River Seiont, 11 culverts, medians and other related infrastructure and the installation of signal systems and information boards.
On February 12, 2009, Parsons Brinckerhoff Ltd was appointed as study consultant.
In 2009, WG commissioned a study to address transport problems on the A487 through Caernarfon and Bontnewydd.
The public consultation took place between March 2010 and May 2010 and a supplementary public consultation took place between November 2010 and January 2011.
On November 1, 2011, WG held a public consultation based on which the route of the project was finalized.
In March 2014, EC Harris (ECH) was awarded the contract for delivering employer’s agent services and the procurement of a design and build contractor.
In March 2014, WG started seeking bids from contractors to execute the project on a design and build mode on an ECI (early contractor involvement) basis with a deadline of April 10, 2014.
In January 2015, joint venture of Balfour Beatty and Jones Brothers Civil Engineers were awarded US$95 million ECI (early contractor involvement) contract.
Public consultation is underway.
