Water Corporation of Western Australia (WCWA), Joondalup City Council (JCC) and the Western Australian Department of State Development (WADSD) joint venture is planning to undertake the construction of a mixed-use project in Joondalup, Western Australia.
The project involves the construction of mixed-use commercial facilities on 76ha of land.
The project includes the construction of a marina resort with 750 boat pens, 50–100 temporary boat pens, 150–200 boat stackers, a residential hub comprising 700 apartments, a 250-room hotel, retail units on 6,725m2 area, commercial amenities on a 5,590m2 area and related facilities.
The project also includes dredging and reclamation work.
On February 14, 2012, JCC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Western Australia (GoWA) for the project.
In July 30, 2013, WCWA, JCC and WADSD submitted the Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS) amendment request to the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC).
On August 20, 2013, JCC authorized to renegotiate with the State Government to renew and strengthen the current MoU.
In September 2013, Strategen was appointed as environmental consultant for the project.
In May 2014, the project has been referred to the Environmental Protection Authority for environmental assessment.
On June 26, 2014, JCC has approved the City’s 2014-15 Budget for advancing the Ocean Reef Marina project.
Planning approval process commenced in April 2014 and environmental approvals process commenced in June 2014.
In August 2016, Joondalup councillors voted on two items to progress the project.
Subject to approvals, construction is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2020 and will take three years for completion.
