The Worcestershire County Council (WCC) is undertaking to build a parkway regional interchange railway station in Worcester, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a railway station comprising a single platform on the Worcester–London line, two platforms on the Birmingham–Bristol line, a new station building, 500 parking spaces and related infrastructure, and the installation of signaling and safety systems.
The project is being funded by both the county council and the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
In 2014, the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (Worcestershire LEP) allocated US$11.5 million from the Worcestershire Local Growth Deal for the project.
In October 2014, WCC conducted a public consultation of the project plans.
On August 25, 2015, WCC’s Planning & Regulatory Committee granted planning permission for the project.
On July 7, 2016, Design-build contract has been issued with submission end date on August 9, 2016.
In February 2017, The Department for Transport (DOT) approval enabled the Council formally to award a contract for the construction of the station.
As of March 2017, Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd has been appointed as design-build contractor.
Design activities are underway. Construction works are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2017.
