The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is planning to undertake the development of a dam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
The project involves the construction of an 89m high earth and rock fill dam with a 25.5MW hydroelectric power plant. It will be developed in two power houses.
The work will include the construction of two powerhouses, first power house at Khirji with 10.5MW and the second at Manzai with 15MW, with total 25.5MW capacity.
It also includes the construction of a 10km power tunnel, a 115km canal, two tail race tunnels of length 792m and 183m, the installation of turbines, generators, transformers and power control units; and the laying of transmission lines.
Electra Consultants has been appointed as study consultant.
In 1988, feasibility studies were completed for the project.
Construction will commence after the preparation and approval of Revised PC-I (project cost), which has been submitted to the Ministry of Water Resources, and later to be submitted to the Ministry of Planning and Development.
