VicRoads (VicRoads) also called as Roads Corporation of Victoria is undertaking the upgrade of Chandler Highway in Kew, Victoria, Australia.
The project involves upgrade of four lane Chandler Highway Bridge to six lane from Heidelberg Road, Alphington and Yarra Boulevard across Yarra River.
It includes the upgrade of intersection at Heidelberg Road, the laying of six lanes to Chandler Highway, the construction of a new bridge to the west of the existing Chandler Highway Bridge, installing of new traffic lights at the Yarra Boulevard intersection, improving cycling paths for a more direct and safer route to nearby trails.
In May 2015, Victorian Government granted US$81million fund for the project.
VicRoads sought community feedback on the design options from October 15, 2015 to November 15, 2015.
VicRoads proposed four bridge alignment options:
1. West alignment - six lanes.
2. East alignment - six lanes.
3. West alignment - four lanes.
4. East alignment - four lanes.
VicRoads preferred six lane west alignment for the project.
On November 30, 2015, the Primary Agency prepared community feedback analysis and local community impact overview for the project.
On May 18, 2016, VicRoads issued expression of Interest (EOI) for the construction contractor of the project with a submission deadline as June 15, 2016.
In June 2016, VicRoads is in the process of selecting pre-qualified bidders prior to a tender process, which is expected to start in mid-2016 and also VicRoads is planning to construct two new public spaces as part of the Chandler Highway upgrade and is seeking design ideas from the public for the same.
In September 2016, VicRoads selected BMD, CPB Contractors, Laing O'Rourke and Seymour Whyte as pre-qualifies bidders to submit tenders.
In February 2017, Seymour Whyte was appointed as a construction contract for the project.
In July 2017, construction activities commenced and are underway with completed scheduled by the fourth quarter of 2018.
