Victoria Racing Club (VRC) is undertaking the redevelopment of a grandstand in Victoria, Australia.
The project involves the construction of 18,000m2 five-level Club Stand, which doubles the Old Grandstand of 9,000m2.
The project will include the construction of three restaurants, eight bars, a rooftop garden, stairs, a new pavilion for owners and trainers between the Club Stand and the existing Members’ Grandstand and other related facilities, and the installation of lifts and escalators.
Funding for the project will come from the sale of two parcels of land to Chinese property developer Greenland Holding Group. VRC will gather US$41 million from this property deal, but it must be approved by the Federal Government's Foreign Investment Review Board.
Bates Smart Architects has been appointed as architect for the project.
In October 2016, Multiplex (formerly Brookfield Multiplex) was appointed as construction contractor for the project.
As of January 2017, demolition works were underway.
In June 2017, construction works commenced and expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2019.
