VISA Power Ltd (VPL) is planning to build a coal based thermal power plant project in Orissa, India.
The project involves the construction of a 1,320MW coal based thermal power plant with two units of 660MW each on 380ha of land.
It includes the construction of a coal washing unit, water transmission pipelines, raw water storage tanks, a switchyard for power evacuation, a power house, and the installation of turbines, generators and the laying of transmission lines.
The company has planned to adopt an advanced super critical technology that would reduce carbon dioxide emission besides burning less fuel with higher output. The 40MCM water required for the project will be allotted from River Mahanadi.
In August 2011, the environmental impact assessment (EIA) study was conducted. In fourth quarter of 2011, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between VPL and the Government of Orissa to develop the project.
Land acquisition process has been completed and planning activities are underway.
