The University of Manitoba (UoM) is undertaking the Fort Garry Campus Renovation project at Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada.
The project involves the redevelopment of a Fort Garry Campus. It includes construction of a 360-bed residence facility, a 5,574m2 of Art Research Technology (ART) Lab, renovation of 20,438m2 Tache Hall, a Biological Sciences Building, a 8,361m2 of two-story auditorium/music, a 500-seat Marcel A. Desautels Auditorium, a School of Art and Gallery One house, high-profile location for International House and theatre for the Department of Theatre & Film.
The project received US$47 million funding from the Manitoba's Ministry of Advanced Education and Literacy in April 2008.
Patkau Architects, LM Architectural Group and Cibinel Architects Ltd have been appointed as the Architects, PCL Construction Canada Inc as the construction contractor for the (Biological Sciences Building and student residence) and Bird Construction Ltd as the general contractor for the project.
On May 28, 2010, Ground breaking ceremony held for the ARTLab and in the fourth quarter of 2012, the construction works on ARTLab completed.
In August 2011, Stuart Olson Dominion Construction was awarded the US$60 million demolition and construction contract for the Tache hall, but it received a contract termination notice from the UoM in February 2013. Later the contract was awarded to Bird Construction Ltd.
In September 2015, Tache hall was partially opened. The hall has been completely renovated in 2016.
The construction work on the remaining part is underway.
