University of South Carolina (USC) is planning to build a health-care campus in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, the US.

The project involves the construction of a health-care campus on 5.7ha of land and will be developed in two phases.

The first phase includes the construction of a 12,077m2 medical building, classrooms and other teaching facilities, and the second phase includes the construction of a 15,329m2 research facility and space for the school’s other clinical health programs.

The project includes the construction of a medical school, a life-science facility, a private medical-research office, a parking garage and related facilities.

In January 2016, USC requested US$50 million funding from the South Carolina lawmakers to start the project.

On September 12, 2016, USC received preliminary approval.

Land acquisition activities are underway. Subject to approval, construction of the first phase is expected to be completed by 2020 and second phase by 2023.
