US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District for the Army Institute of Public Health, is undertaking the construction of a public health command laboratory in Aberdeen, Maryland, the US.
The project involves the construction of a 25,548m2 laboratory on 8ha of land. It includes the construction of a vivarium, warehouses, lab offices, ancillary spaces, office space, a central utility plant, parking and related facilities.
In May 2013, USACE issued a survey requesting feedback from the construction industry about including a government-mandated project labor agreement (PLA) in a solicitation for a federal contract to build a medical research laboratory.
On August 6, 2015, Walsh Gilbane JV, a joint venture of Walsh Federal, LLC and Gilbane Federal, was awarded a US$206 million construction contract for the project.
ZGF Architects has been appointed as architect for the project.
In December 15, 2015, a ground breaking ceremony held.
Construction works are underway.
