Ulster Carpet Mills (Holdings) Ltd (UCM) is undertaking the expansion of Portadown carpets factory in Armagh County, Northern Ireland.
The project involves the modernization and expansion of a carpet factory and being implemented in phases.
The first phase includes the construction of a new high technology dye house with an investment of US$10 million while the other phases include the adoption of new weaving and finishing technology.
It includes the construction of production units, storage facilities, and related facilities and the installation of machinery and equipment, safety and security systems.
The project is being funded with US$1.6 million by Invest Northern Ireland.
In March 2017, construction works on the high technology dye house were completed.
Subsequently, UCM acquired Griffith Textile Machines in a cash buy as part of the proposed expansion project. With this, UCM commenced planning activities for the further phases involving the adoption of new weaving and finishing technology.
Entire expansion and development works are expected to be completed within a time frame of five years.
