A joint venture of Total E&P Canada (Total) and Teck Resources Limited (TRL) (formerly Teck Cominco) are planning to undertake the construction of Equinox Oil Sands Mine project in Northern Alberta region, Canada.
The project will be developed either as a stand-alone mine with dedicated bitumen production and extraction facilities or as one where bitumen froth is exported to either the frontier project or another neighboring project.
The project involves construction of a 2.9 million m3 per annum (50,000BPD) of bitumen oil sands mine, storage tanks, administration buildings, co generation facilities, the installation of product pipeline and water pipelines.
The project will use latest technology in order to reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in environment.
TRL's in-house team Teck Coal Ltd. will undertake the development works.
In third quarter of 2007, environmental baseline studies were conducted and development concepts were finalized in the fourth quarter of 2007. In second quarter of 2008, public disclosure document was submitted.
In first quarter of 2009, (environmental impact assessment) EIA Terms of Reference was finalized.
In first quarter of 2010, scope of level Mine plan was finalized, and prefeasibility integrated mine plan was finalized in the first quarter of 2011.
In November 2011, Total and TRL submitted EIA application for the project.
