Thetis Energy Ltd (Thetis), a consortium of B9 Energy Ltd, Statkraft, and Deepblue Renewable, is planning to construct the Torr Head Tidal Power Plant project in Antrim County of Northern Ireland, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a 100MW tidal power plant.
The project includes the construction of a powerhouse, sub-station, ancillary onshore works and connection of generating station to the onshore electricity distribution network and the installation of 100 turbines, sub-sea export cables. In May 2010, RES Offshore, and JP Kenny was appointed as the study contractors for the project whose scope of work includes providing environmental and consent management services, technical and engineering resources to cover the outline project design, electrical systems, transmission options and construction, operations and decommissioning strategies.
In 2010, Tidal Ventures is a joint venture (JV) partnership between Brookfield Renewable Energy Group and OpenHydro, a DCNS company was appointed as the project manager and OpenHydro as developer for the project.
An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been completed for each element of the project including the Environmental Statement (ES).
