The Transport for London (TfL) plans to upgrade the A23/A232 Fiveways Croydon Road in London, the UK.
The project includes widening and upgrading the A23 Purley Way bridge that crosses the railway by Waddon station, widening Epsom Road to accommodate two-way traffic, widening the western end of Epsom Road, construction of new cycle facilities on Epsom Road, with access to Waddon station and additional pedestrian crossings on A23 Purley Way and Epsom Road.
In December 2013, Atkins completed the feasibility study for the two proposals developed by TfL. The two proposals include:
Proposal 1: Implementation of a new road, pedestrian and cycle bridge over the railway linking the A232 from Croydon Road to Duppas Hill Road.
Proposal 2: Replace the bridge over the railway at Waddon station which would widen the critical link of the A23, and widen Epsom Road to accommodate two-way traffic.
In February 2016, TfL chosen to develop the second proposal after completion of the initial public consultation process.
In May 2016, Ramboll was appointed to develop concept design of A23 Waddon Station Bridge.
In January 2017, TfL signed a framework agreement with Costain, Morgan Sindall and Skanska to design and build the project.
TfL is planning to conduct the further public consultation on the selected proposal in the fourth quarter of 2017.
Construction works are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2020, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The project involves the widening and upgrade of the A23/A232 Fiveways Croydon Road in London, the UK.
The US$65 million project includes the following:
1. Widening and upgrading the A23 Purley Way bridge
2. Widening Epsom Road to accommodate two-way traffic
3. Widening the western end of Epsom Road
