Therma Visayas Inc (TVI), a special purpose vehicle formed by Aboitiz Power Corporatrion (APC) and Vivant Energy, a subsidiary of Vivant Corporation, is undertaking the construction of a coal-fired power plant in Cebu, the Philippines.
The project involves the construction of a 340MW coal-fired power plant comprising two 170MW units.
The project includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, a coal storage yard, a power evacuation switchyard and other related facilities, the installation of steam generators, steam turbines, coal handling systems and limestone handling systems and the laying of transmission lines.
National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has been appointed as an operator for the project.
In December 2011, TVI acquired the construction site and secured environmental compliance certificate for the project implementation in May 2012.
In July 2012, TVI issued tenders for EPC contract with a submission deadline as November 29, 2012.
On May 30, 2014, Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd and Galing Power Energy Co. Inc were appointed as EPC contractors for the project.
In August 2014, Vivant Energy entered into a shareholder agreement with APC to jointly develop the project.
On December 3, 2014, Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. was appointed as client’s engineer. The scope of the contract covers reviewing design and provides construction components to the EPC firm.
On April 8, 2015, construction work commenced on the project.
On June 19, 2015, TVI signed an omnibus agreement with a consortium of lender-banks to secure the loan of US$709.1 million.
In February 2017, 90% of the construction work completed.
Construction works are underway and the project is scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2017.
