The project involves the construction of M9 motorway or an outer Sydney orbital running from the Central Coast to the Illawarra via a corridor west of the M7. It includes the extension of 80km road between Box Hill in the north and the Hume Motorway at Menangle in the south, the construction of access roads, interchanges, bridges, culverts, pedestrian walkways and other related facilities, and the installation of signal and safety systems.
TNSW conducted public consultation between June 6, 2015, and August 7, 2015.
AECOM has been appointed as lead consultant and Civil Consulting & Highway Design as an infrastructure investment options advisor.
TNSW received US$5 million funding for the project from the New South Wales government.
The project is expected to take five years for planning and 10 years for implementation.
