Tellus Holdings Ltd (THL) is planning to develop a kaolin mine in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, Australia.
The project involves the development of a kaolin mine with a production capacity of 40,000TPA of kaolin on 5,930ha of land. It includes the construction of a 2.5MW diesel power generation, 124,000kL per year water supply with reverse osmosis, Kaolin and waste laboratories, materials storage warehouse, workshop facilities and the upgrade of a 100km existing access road to Great Eastern Highway.
The project includes the construction of a waste storage cell, workshops, offices, hardstand areas, car parks, a weighbridge and the installation of security fencing, security gates, a fire suppression system, gas and water monitoring and signage.
Clough Projects Australia Pty Ltd., Kerman Contracting Pty Ltd, Terra Search Pty. Ltd. and UGL Ltd have been appointed as contractors.
THL completed the scoping study and stated the project technically and economically feasible and has no fatal flaws.
In April 2015, THL submitted a project referral to the Commonwealth Department of the Environment (DoE), Commonwealth Department of the Environment and Energy (DoEE) and to the Western Australia (WA) Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
The EPA determined a Public Environmental Review (PER) to know the environmental and social aspects associated with construction and operation of the project.
In June 2016, THL submitted PER draft for review to Office of The Environmental Protection Authority (OEPA) and other key decision-making authorities in the WA Government and Commonwealth Government.
On December 12, 2016, THL held a public consultation session on the PER.
The project is under Public Environmental Review. Subject to approvals and final investment decision, construction works are scheduled to be completed by 2018.
