Tehri Hydro Development Corp. Ltd. (THDC) is planning to undertake the construction of a power plant in Uttarakhand, India.
The project involves the construction of a 65MW hydroelectric power plant. It includes the construction of a substation, a powerhouse, access roads, a long barrage, a water conductor system, a horseshoeshaped head race tunnel, an underground machine hall and a tailrace tunnel, the installation of generator, transformers, turbines, a gated power intake, a desilting chamber, surge shaft and pressure shaft, and the laying of transmission lines.
In 2010, the location of the project was changed to Kosa Village, which is 1km away from its original location due to the protests from the Malari villagers.
On April 2011, the task force on power sector ordered THDC to complete the projects in time without any delay in the process.
In 2012, the MoEF recommended keeping1km free flow distance between Tail Race Tunnel (TRT) of Malari Jhelum project and Full Reservoir level (FRL) of Jelum Tamak Project.
On May 27, 2013, the viability report of 65MW was prepared and submitted to Central Electricity Authority (CEA). DPR process for the project was initiated.
In August 2013, the Supreme Court order MoEF and the State of Uttarakhand not to grant any Environmental clearance or Forest clearance for any hydroelectric project in the State of Uttarakhand until further orders.
In February 11, 2014, THDC received clearance from the CEA.
On September 6, 2014, THDC filed a petition in Supreme Court representing the project to review the issue for MoEF clearance.
THDC awaiting a decision from Supreme Court of India. Subject to the clearance from Supreme Court, DPR preparation will commence.
