Tokyo Gas Co Ltd (TGCL), Japan Petroleum Exploration Co Ltd (JAPEX) and Nippon Steel & Sumikin Engineering Co Ltd (NSSEC) are jointly planning to undertake the construction of Natural Gas Pipeline project from Tokyo, Japan to Sakhalin Island, Russia.
The project involves the construction of a 1,500km pipeline from Wakkanai, the northernmost city of Japan, which will be connected to Sakhalin with a pipeline section running on the seabed of the La Perouse Strait. Other sections will be laid through the Tsugaru Strait between the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu.
It includes the construction of storage tanks, pumping units, control junctions, the laying of pipelines, the installation of safety systems.
TGCL, JAPEX and NSSEC have completed the preliminary feasibility study of the project.
Planning activities are underway.
