Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is planning to develop a monorail system in Tennessee, the US.
The project envisages the construction of a 51.4km monorail corridor from Murfreesboro to Nashville with passengers handling capacity of up to 55,000 per day.
It includes the construction of new elevated stations, platforms, administrative space and related infrastructure, the installation of signaling and safety systems, and the laying of rail tracks.
In March 2014, the project received preliminary approval from Senate Transportation Committee while approvals from House Finance Subcommittee were secured in April 2014.
The approvals requested TDOT to conduct a study to determine the feasibility of a monorail public transportation system along the I-24 Nashville Southeast Corridor that connects downtown Murfreesboro to Nashville.
In February 2015, study activities were completed and submitted report to Senate and House Transportation Committees.
Planning works are underway.
