Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC through its subsidiary TAQA Atrush BV (TAQA), ShaMaran Petroleum Corporation (SMP), Marathon Oil Company (MRO) and Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) are undertaking the development of an oil field in Iraq.
The project involves the development of an oil and gas field to produce 100,000 to 120,000 barrel per day (BPD) of oil in four phases of 30,000bpd each.
The first phase includes the development of oil and gas infrastructure to produce a capacity of 30,000bpd of oil, a central processing facility and three production wells.
Subject to KRG approval and first field appraisal, the investment in the next three phases will be similar to the first phase.
The entire development also features storage tanks, the installation of mechanical, electrical, safety and security equipment.
Wood Group PSN has been appointed as lead consultant for the project. However, TAQA's in-house division will undertake the drilling production wells and the development works for the project.
In May 2013, TAQA submitted a Field Development Plan (FDP) to the Atrush Block Management Committee.
On October 7, 2013, TAQA received approval from the KRG for the first phase development of the Atrush Block. The approval covers a 25 year period to maximize recovery of the oil resources.
On December 19, 2013, the construction works commenced on first phase of the project.
In November 2016, construction work were completed on the first phase.
Planning activities are underway on the second phase.
