Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) and the Centre of Waste Management Abu Dhabi (CWM) are jointly planning to undertake the Waste-to-Energy Power Plant project in the UAE.
The project involves the construction of a waste-to-energy facility with a capacity to process up to 1,000,000 tonnes of landfill waste and produce 100MW of power.
The project will include the construction of a cooling tower, a flue-gas stack, a water treatment system and a trash storage bunker, the installation of a biomass boiler, steam turbine generator, condenser, cooling water system, scrubbers, fly ash handling system, acid gas removal system, nitrogen oxide removal system, particulate removal system and a transformer, and the laying of transmission lines.
Ramboll has been appointed as an engineering consultant, Atkins as an environmental consultant, and Linklaters LLP as the legal advisor.
In June 2012, TAQA and CWM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the joint development of the project.
In February 2013, TAQA appointed HSBC as the financial advisor of the project.
On February 28, 2013, TAQA invited companies to submit the request for qualifications (RFQ) for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with submission deadline as March 15, 2013. However, TAQA waiting for necessary approvals from the government, following which a request for proposal (RFP) will be issued.
Planning activities are underway.
