Steelhead LNG Corp. (Steelhead) and Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN) are planning to undertake the construction of Sarita Bay LNG Export Facility project in British Columbia, Canada.
The project involves the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility with a capacity 24 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) comprising 4x6 MTPA.
It includes the construction of storage tanks, loading and unloading facilities, an administrative facility, the installation of machinery and equipment, and the laying of pipelines.
On July 8, 2014, Steelhead and HFN signed an agreement to jointly develop the project.
In February 2015, Steelhead and HFN signed an agreement with WorleyParsons worth of US$30 million.
The scope of the contract covers the provision of environmental, engineering, geotechnical and regulatory services for the proposed project.
In October 2015, the project received approval from council.
In March 2016, Steelhead applied for an export permit with the National Energy Board to transport up to 30 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year.
On February 19, 2017, Huu-ay-aht citizens approved the purchase of the Sarita Bay lands from Western Forest Products under the Huu-ay-aht Land Act.
On March 25, 2017, Huu-ay-aht citizens voted 70% to approve the project.
In November 2017, Hawiih Council has approved the name change for the project as Kwispaa LNG project.
On January 29, 2018, Steelhead has shortlisted four contractors to complete front-end engineering and design (FEED) work.
The shortlisted contractors are Black & Veatch / Samsung Heavy Industries / PCL Industrial Management Inc.; CB&I / Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC); KBR; and TechnipFMC.
The Steelhead is planning to issue the tender for FEED in the second quarter of 2018 and to commence the FEED work in the third quarter of 2018.
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) still needs to be completed and the whole project is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
The project is in the early stages of development.
