Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O) is undertaking the construction of Seri Tanjung Pinang mixed-use project in Penang, Malaysia.

The project involves the construction of a man-made island with residential facilities, which will be executed in three phases.

The phase one will include the construction of luxury residences, modern terraced and semi-detached homes, luxury condominiums and holiday apartments on 97ha of land.

The phase two includes the construction of 12,000 houses on 299ha of land.

The third phase will be developed on 205ha of land.

The project also includes the construction of Tamarind and Andorra apartments. The Tamarind will include two towers comprising 552 units and Andorra is a three-story tower comprising 2 units.

The project will further include the construction of parking facilities and the installation of elevators, safety and security systems.

GDP Architects has been appointed as architect, Dr. Nik & Associates Sdn Bhd and BuroHappold Engineering as engineering consultant.

In April 2013, a detailed environmental impact assessment (DEIA) for the phase two was approved by the Department of Environment (DoE), Malaysia.

In June 2014, E&O received state government clearance for the phase two.

In January 2015, E&O opened the tenders for the reclamation activities for the phase two.

In February 2015, E&O secured approvals to start land reclamation activities of the phase two.

In July 2015, E&O evaluated the tenders for the Seri Tanjung Pinang phase two (STP2) reclamation project submitted by four foreign contractor-led consortiums.

In October 2015, letter of award (LOA) was issued to China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) for reclamation of phase two.

The letter of award to CCCC comprises is provided in two packages: package one to reclaim phase 2A, which comprises the 102.4ha STP2 island and the 53ha of extension of Gurney Drive, the conditional award of Package two to reclaim 205ha STP2 island..

On December 07, 2015, TPD secured US$258 million for reclamation and infrastructure works for the phase two of the project from Maybank Islamic Bank Bhd (MIB) and RHB Islamic Bank Bhd.

In January 2016, E&O signed a reclamation contract with Tanjung Pinang Development Sdn Bhd (TPD), a subsidiary of E&O and CCCC for US$246 million for phase two.

In February 2016, fencing activities commenced for Gurney Drive.

In June 2016, construction activities on phase one completed.

Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP) has been appointed as an associate developer for the Phase two.

Reclamation and fencing activities on the phase two are underway.
