POSCO Group (POSCO), and Shree Uttam Steel and Power Ltd (SUSPL) jointly formed by ArcelorMittal and Uttam Galva Steels Ltd (UGSL), are planning to undertake the steel plant project in Maharashtra, India.
The project involves the construction of a steel plant with a capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) on 809ha of land. The project will be executed in two phases
The first phase will include setting up a capacity of 1.5MMTPA and the remaining in the second phase.
It will include the construction of a 150MW captive power plant, processing facility, production facility, a blast furnace, a basic oxygen furnace, a power house and a substation, and the installation of turbines, generators, transformers, related machinery and safety systems and the laying of transmission lines.
In February 2014, SUSPL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) for the development of the project.
In February 2015, SUSPL has submitted Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report to the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFC)
On August 11, 2015, POSCO signed an agreement with SUSPL for the development of the project.
POSCO is seeking environmental clearance for the project development.
In September 2016, project received environmental clearance from MoEFC.
Planning activities are underway.
