Stowarzyszenie Szczecinskiego Obszaru Metropolitalnego (SSOM) is planning to build a railway network in Szczecin, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland.
PKP PLK, a subsidiary of PKP SA and West Pomeranian Marshal Council will take part in project development in the later stages.
The project involves the construction of eight kilometer railway network in two stages.
The first stage of the project includes the construction of railway lines between Szczecin, Stargard Szczecnski, Gryfino, and Goleniow. The second stage includes the construction of a 1.2km railway lines between Szczecin and Police, two railway stations, parking and related infrastructure.
It also includes the construction of one railway track between Pomorzany and Turzyn (line no. 406), three integrated junctions, railway stations, railway traffic control centers, parking and related infrastructure, and the installation of transmission lines, signaling systems and related electrical equipment.
SSOM will allocate one-third of project funds for the purchase of new carriages.
In November 2011, SSOM submitted the project plans to Szczecin City Council.
In September 2014, SSOM awarded a US$0.5 million study contract to Trako Wierzbicki i Wspolnicy S.J.
In November 2014, West Pomeranian Voivodeship Council and Government of Poland signed a territorial contract to develop the project.
In the second quarter of 2015, feasibility studies have been completed. Construction works are expected to be completed by 2022.
Planning activities are underway.
