Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians (SSMT) is planning to undertake the construction of a casino in Eaton County, Michigan, the US.
The project involves the construction of a casino with a gross floor area of 11,612m2 area. It includes the construction of 3,000 slot machines and 48 table games area, a 1,393m2 gaming space holding 350 to 500 slot machines, two parking decks featuring a total 2,900 parking spaces, a 400-space garage is to be built along the east side of the Lansing Center at Michigan and Cedar and another 2,500-space garage to be built north of Cooley Law School Stadium, and the installation of safety and security systems.
The proposed investment project is being categorized to spend US$135 million for casino, US$65 million for parking decks and US$45 million for slot machines/tables/related equipment and technology.
In March 2012, the Lansing City Council approved the project plan. On November 1, 2012, SSMT completed the land purchase for the project.
On June 11, 2014, SSMT submitted land trust applications to the U.S. Department of the Interior.
In December 2015, the SSMT again submitted its application to the U.S. Department of Interior after adding certain provisions.
