The project involves the construction of a mixed-use community comprising up to 25-storey buildings on 53ha of land. It will be developed in eight precincts.

The first precinct includes the construction of a 1,000m2 retail space, a 4,000m2 commercial space.

The second precinct includes the construction of a 15,000m2 retail space, a 40,000m2 commercial space, and 100 residential units.

The third precinct includes the construction of a 30,000m2 retail space, a 50,000m2 commercial space, and 600 residential units.

The fourth precinct includes the construction of a 3,900m2 retail space, and 30,000m2 commercial spaces.

The fifth precinct includes the construction of a 5,000m2 retail space, a 13,000m2 commercial space and 800 residential units.

The sixth precinct includes the construction of a 10,000m2 retail space, a 13,000m2 commercial space and 250 residential units.

The seventh precinct includes the construction of a 100m2 retail space, and 200 residential units.

The eighth precinct includes the construction of a 10,000m2 retail space, a 15,000m2 commercial space and 50 residential units.

The project includes the construction of a 75,000m2 retail space, a 165,000m2 commercial space, 2,000 residential units and parking facilities.

On July 19, 2013, the Government of Queensland (GoQ) announced the Maroochydore City Centre Priority Development Area (MCCPDA) development scheme for the project.

On July 11, 2014, GoQ approved MCCPDA development scheme.

In August 2015, demolition work commenced on site.

In October 2015, demolition works completed.

On December 4, 2015, SMPL held a public consultation session on the proposed amendments to the MCCPDA development scheme until December 24, 2015.

In February 2016, Shadforths Civil Contractors awarded bulk earthworks tender and commence works on site

On February 11, 2016, SMPL commenced preliminary construction works.

On April 22, 2016, the Minister for Economic Development Queensland (MEDQ) approved the MCCPDA amended development scheme.

On April 28, 2016, SMPL commenced earthworks on the site.

In May 2016, Precinct Plans approved by Economic Development Queensland.

In June 2016, Expressions of Interest open for Precincts 3 and 6.

In May 2017, civil works commenced for the first stage on Maroochydore city center.
