SEM-Calaca Power Corporation (SEM-Calaca) is planning to undertake the construction of a coal fired power plant in Batangas Province, the Philippines.
The project involves the expansion of Calaca coal fired power plant in three phases. The first phase includes the construction of 2x150MW units, second phase having a 350MW unit, where as the third phase having a 350MW unit.
The project includes the construction of substations, power house and related facilities, the installation of turbines and generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
The proposed facilities would solely use coal from the Semirara coal mines which are owned and operated by SEM Calaca, also a wholly owned subsidiary of Semirara Mining.
The first phase being carried out by South Luzon Power Generation Corporation (SLPGC), using circulating fluidized bed technology.
The second and third phases to be developed by St. Raphael Power Generation Corporation (SRPGC), a power generation unit of Semirara, using pulverized coal technology.
In February 2012, Semirara, through its wholly-owned unit Southwest Luzon Power Generation Corp., signed a loan agreement with the Banco De Oro Unibank Inc., Bank of the Philippines Islands and China Banking Corp.
D.M. Consunji, Inc. and China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd have been appointed as contractors for the first phase.
In August 2015, construction works on the two units of first phase were completed.
In April 2016, DMCI Holdings Inc. is in negotiation with Manila Electric Co. and Marubeni Corp. of Japan to build the second and third phase.
SEM-Calaca will issue the EPC tenders for the second and third phase in the first half of 2018 and the contract will be awarded in the second half of 2018. Construction works are scheduled for completion in December 2019.
