SDE Energy Ltd (SDE) an Israel based energy company is planning construct the Tidal Power Plant project in the coastal line of eastern Kenya.
The project involves the construction of a 100MW tidal power plant. Electricity will be produced in the power plant by tapping the waves in the coastal line.
The project includes the construction of power houses, substations and installation of tidal power machines, generators and laying of transmission lines and related infrastructure.
In February 2011, the Ministry of Energy granted official approval for the establishment of the power plant.
The installation of the power plant will be executed in cooperation with local company Sea Wave Gen.
