Selwyn Chihong Mining Ltd (SCML), a subsidiary of Yunnan Chihong Zinc, and Germanium Company Limited are planning the development of a zinc-lead mine in Ross River, Yukon, Canada.
The project involves the development of zinc-lead mine with a production capacity of 10.15MTPA of ore. It includes the construction, development, and operation of the surface open pit and underground coal mine and associated infrastructure.
The project includes the construction of roads, bridges, general mine infrastructure, administrative buildings and other related facilities.
Hatch Ltd, Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd, Merit Consultants International, Inc. and SRK Consulting (Canada) Inc. have been appointed as consulting companies.
In June 2013, SCML took over management and ownership on the project.
In 2014, Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) and upgrades to Howard’s Pass Access Road (HPAR) was completed on the project.
In 2015, a Prefeasibility Study (PFS) and Socio-economic Participation Agreement (SEPA) with the Kaska First Nation on the project were completed.
In 2016, SCML conducted a feasibility study for on the project which includes the preparation of Environmental Assessment and permits applications.
As of June 2017, SCML is planning to submit its project proposal to the Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board (YESAB) Executive Committee to initiate the environmental assessment process.
Once the project received approvals, SCML is planning to apply for the permits and licenses needed to build and operate the proposed mine.
Construction is expected to commence in 2022 and complete by 2024.
