Suffolk County Council (SCC) plans to build the third crossing over Lake Lothing in Lowestoft, Suffolk, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a river crossing connecting the A12 via Waveney Drive on the south side, to Denmark Road and Peto Way on the north side of Lake Lothing.
It includes the construction of a carriageway, cycle tracks, bridges, bridge pillars, supporting walls, long switchback ramps, concrete pavements and pedestrian ways, and the installation of safety systems.
WSP consultants and Mouchel Group, a subsidiary of Kier Group plc have been appointed as the lead consultants for the project.
WSP consultants has investigated three different proposals for the project over Lake Lothing to ease congestion. However, in December 2014, SCC has selected a proposal, out of three, which comprises a four-lane bridge close to the site of the existing Bascule.
In March 2016, SCC received a provisional funding agreement of US$103 million from the Department for Transport for the project implementation.
In April 2016, SCC secured approvals for the project from Central Government.
In July 2017, SCC carried out structural and environmental tests along collecting geological samples.
The planning application for the crossing is expected to submitted by first quarter of 2018 and construction is scheduled to begin in 2019 and is expected to completed by 2022.
