Summary

Southern Africa Shanghai Energizer Company (SASEC), a joint venture of Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd (SEG), Shenergy Company Ltd (SCL) and Shanghai Nanjiang (Group) Company Ltd (SHNJGZ) is planning to build a power plant in Zimbabwe.

The project involves the construction of a 1,200MW coal-fired power plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, water cooling units, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.

In July 2014, SEG, SCL and SHNJGZ entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project’s development.

SASEC would sell its electricity to the state-owned Zimbabwe Power Company.

The project is planned to be developed in three phases, the construction of the first phase, with an output capacity of 300MW, is expected to last for three years before completion.

The exact location of the plant is yet to be finalized.
