State Corporation Rosatom is planning to undertake the development of a nuclear power plant in Navashino town, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.
The project involves the construction of 2,510 MW nuclear power plant which will be developed into 2 units of 1,255 MW each, a powerhouse to install the VVER 1,255 reactor, substations and transmission line to supply generated power to the grid.
Rostekhnadzor has issued a license to JSC Concern Rosenergoatom for placement of units number 1 and number 2 nuclear power plant in Navashino district of Nizhny Novgorod region, near the village of Monakovo. Obtaining a license for accommodation for a period of 5 years for building nuclear power plants and RTN means an agreement in principle on its design.
The NIAEP company is in the process of preparing the detailed design documents for the first two phases of the project.
The commercial operation of the first reactor is planned for 2025, where the second reactor is planned for 2030.

In October 2014, Rosatom has decided to postpone plans to build new nuclear power plants Nizhny Novgorod region until 2031 - 2035.
