The Government of Zambia (GoZ) and Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation (Rosatom) are planning to build an NSTC in Zambia.
The project involves the construction of an NSTC. It includes the construction of laboratories, functional complexes, research facilities, meeting rooms, a 10MW water moderated reactor and related facilities.
JSC Atomstroyexport has been appointed to provide preliminary engineering survey of the selected site for the project.
On June 2, 2016, Rosatom and GoZ signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
On February 16, 2017, Rosatom and GoZ signed an intergovernmental agreement on construction of an NSTC.
On June 19, 2017, Rosatom and GoZ signed a project development agreement (PDA) paving the way for a preliminary feasibility study into the project.
Rosatom is expected to sign the construction contract of the project by the fourth quarter of 2017.
