Riel Associates Pty Ltd (Riel) and a Private Developer (Private) plans to build a hospital in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The project involves the construction of a 147-bed hospital on 2.3ha of land. It includes a high care and intensive care unit, a maternity unit, a pediatrics unit, a short stay facility, a surgical unit, 20 apartments, a 50-bed step-down facility, a 40-bed boutique hotel, a pharmacy, a coffee shop and parking facilities.
Sukuma Consulting Engineers has been appointed as consulting engineer and Green Door Environmental as the environmental consultant.
On October 2, 2015, the project was granted a hospital licensed by the Department of Health, KwaZulu-Natal (DoH).
In March 2016, the project secured funding.
On August 15, 2016, Victoria Country Club Estate Master Homeowners’ Association NPC (VCC) lodged an application to the Pietermaritzburg High Court (PHC) against the project developer’s application to the Msunduzi Municipality to have the land rezoned to allow for the construction of the hospital.
On August 16, 2016, PHC rejected the application of VCC.
