Rajakiiri Oy (Rajakiiri) is planning to build an offshore wind farm in Kiiri, Tornio, Lapland, Finland.
The project involves the construction of a 70MW offshore wind farm comprising 14 wind turbines with a capacity of 3-5MW each. Each unit will include approximately 100m high tower and a three blade rotor. The rotor diameter will be about 100-125m.
The project includes the construction of turbine foundations, a substation, administrative space and other related infrastructure, the installation of turbines and generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
The environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval was received for the project in 2011.
In November 2013, Rajakiiri submitted application to Finland's Ministry of Employment and the Economy to support the project financially in competition with other eight companies. The Ministry of Employment and the Economy will decide which projects will continue to the second stage of the application process.
In the fourth quarter of 2014, Rajakiiri has secured zoning approval for the project.
In March 2015, consent application has been submitted to the council and the capacity was scaled back from 225MW TO 70MW and turbines from 45 to 14.
Planning activities are underway.
